Created in November 2018, the Women in Culinary Industry Scholarship at Chippewa Valley Technical College is designed to encourage women who enter the culinary field.
As of 2016, it is estimated that 78.4% of head chefs in the United States are male. The Locavore Mobile Kitchen created a scholarship fund to address the inequality between male and female representation in the culinary industry.
Every year beginning in 2020, one female with a GPA of 3.0 in the Chippewa Valley Technical College Culinary Management Program who meets certain criteria will be awarded a scholarship. In addition to monetary aid, she will also be offered one-on-one mentorship throughout her culinary education and beyond. It is the goal of this scholarship to provide support for women to succeed.
Chef Amy feels that for women to do well in culinary environments, they must see themselves reflected in leadership roles. The hope is that providing that leadership and a source of help and support will give a student the confidence to successfully navigate the world of culinary management.
